Be gentle... with yourself, with others + with the planet.

– Courses I love –

Learning is the best!!  Here are a couple of my favourite online programs:

Beautiful You Coaching Academy

The Beautiful You Coaching Academy course is a 6-month program that gives you the tools to build a business as a life coach.  It really lifted the way I set goals for myself, the way I communicate with the people closest to me and lifted the game in my own business, adding a whole new, incredibly rewarding, revenue stream.  If you’d like this for yourself, then I’d love to help you!  I use these high-level coaching skills with my young students and with my youth mentors daily.  I’ve put together a video review of the course as well as the support I offer to each person who signs up through me here.

– Productivity + Business programs I love –

A big part of doing business gently (without the hustle!) is having fantastic systems in place to keep things ticking along smoothly. Here are some of my favourite programs.

All of my customer and community data, email management, marketing campaigns, sales pages, membership sites, order forms, payments, affiliate programs and sales data are all handled through Ontraport. I switched to Ontraport in 2019 and am so so glad I did. It’s meant that I have so much more time as many processes have been automated and it’s easy for me and my team to access everything they need.

We’re more professional and prompt because of it.

Check out Ontraport here.

Asana is my favourite project management app. It’s a fun platform to create and organise to-do lists, for yourself and for any contractors or support people you have come on board down the track. I love the calendar view and list view at different times, I love the variation in how you can set up the projects and I love that a unicorn leaps across the page when I tick off a task!

I also love that I can forward any emails to a particular project in Asana, for example any bills that come in get forwarded to my Payments project in Asana so that one day a week I can go to that project and clearly see everything that needs to be paid. Yay!

Check out asana here.

Xero is great for bookkeeping. I was using a cheaper program and a free program before that but it got to a point where they frustrated me as they didn’t connect properly to bank feeds or work as intuitively as Xero.

I signed up for Xero through a book keeper who transitioned me over from my previous program. I recommend signing up for Xero through a bookkeeper because they usually get the program much cheaper and can then provide additional services for you for the same price as if you were to sign up individually. Just a little tip!

Check out Xero here.

– Eco Fashion love –

I now spend 90% of my time deep in my work with Shine From Within but I was, for a number of years, an eco-model working exclusively with eco-friendly and ethical brands.  I love fashion and I also love mama Earth so it makes my heart sing to find brands who are trying to build their business in an ethical way.  Here are some old blog posts which share a bunch of brands. For a more up-to-date list, check out my ECO FASHION story over on Instagram.

Nature & Health Mag Giveaway!

It’s pretty clear that I love to write. I’ve been blogging for years now and you guys keep coming back so I keep on writing. 🙂 But now I’m getting paid for it! Woohoo!

To celebrate my first Eco Style column in Nature & Health Magazine (Australia’s original and best natural health mag), I’m giving away a year-long subscription! All you have to do is make sure you are on my email newsletter list – look over to the right and sign up for A Modern Girl’s Life – and leave me a quick comment below with something that you do to tread a little bit lighter on the planet. It can be anything from using your own water bottle to buying organic food… I can’t wait to hear!

Want to know what REALLY happens in fashion?

My beautiful friends Alice and Louise, from Sinerji, an Australian ethical and sustainable fashion label, recently spoke at a TedX event. They shared what profit and loss mean to them and showed us some of the things that happen behind closed doors in the fashion industry. It is eye-opening, but in a simple and elegant way. If you have a moment, I highly recommend watching it.

Oneness & Fashion

At first glance, it can seem that style and beauty are a far cry from oneness. Fashion can seem indulgent and frivolous but fundamentally it is about being clothed. We all have to do this and whether we realise it or not, what we wear becomes an expression of who we are, the person that we want to be and our values.

Stella McCartney & Vivienne Westwood honoured

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) UK recently teamed up with celebrity designers and socialites Sadie Frost and Meg Mathews to launch their first Vegan Fashion Awards. Honouring some of the best cruelty-free fashion on the market, the Vegan Fashion Awards celebrated creations by iconic designers such as Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood.

Vintage Style for Everyday Life

A disposable fashion culture creates an atmosphere in which the speed of clothing manufacturing far outpaces the time it takes to naturally dispose of clothing waste. One way to combat this is to give old clothing a new lease on life by repurposing or reincorporating it into your wardrobe.

Vintage fashion is fun to wear and better for the environment. Purchasing second hand clothing helps minimise waste while saving you money at the same time. Not only can vintage styles run the gamut from feminine to edgy, but the clothing itself is often constructed with more care. To take advantage of the benefits of wearing clothing from a different era, you’ll want to find quality sources and have fun playing with vintage style.

Silky Smooth

With such warm weather at this time of year I always struggle with what to wear on Christmas day and to all of the functions that are happening at this time of year. Sometimes I just don’t feel like wearing a summery dress but never feel as though I have another option. It’s just too darn hot!
But this year, I decided to take a risk and wear pants. Not ordinary pants mind you, these pants are made from beautiful Bemberg-Modal fabric comprising of 50% Organic Cotton and 50% Beechwood. The yarn is Oeko-Tek Certified and the dyes are G.O.T.S certified.

Sustainable Fashion Online Store

A couple of weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure of working with the duo behind Australian ethical fashion labels, Rant Clothing and Bestowed. We were working on some new images for their new baby – an online eco boutique aptly named Sustainable Fashion.

SHINE From Within – my new business!

This is a big one…I’ve just launched a brand new business that brings over a decade of work, life experience and all the things I love together in to one amazing place. It’s called SHINE From Within and is dedicated to helping young women realise their unique beauty, giving them the tools and confidence to shine bright in the world.

Inspiring Positive Change Through Fashion

I’ve talked about One Colour on the blog before but their latest collection has just launched and I was lucky enough to get up close and personal with every piece in a recent shoot. With a mix of sophisticated, timeless lines and vibrant beadwork, the collection combines traditional skills with a modern sensibility. Classic colours of red, white and navy easily compliment any wardrobe enabling One Colour to extend beyond just one season.

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that one-pieces are ugly, will stretch and fade quickly and will never quite fit properly. Aquadiva totally blows that theory out of the water! They are just so comfortable to wear, so vibrant and colourful and, even though I have been wearing mine all summer in pools and the ocean they still look as good as new.
