From discussions with friends, students, family and online musings, I’ve gathered that quite a few people are a little bit scared of mineral make up. Or perhaps feel as though it might not work as well as the ‘proper stuff.’ I get it. It can be a different consistency and it can feel like you aren’t wearing any make up at all, which can be very odd if you are used to a heavy application. But after doing so much research and learning about the link between toxins that we absorb through the skin and all sorts of diseases, natural make up is a non-negotiable for me.
To learn that our skin can absorb up to 80% of the products we apply AND that over 80% of the ingredients in cosmetic products have not even been evaluated for safety is pretty alarming. It means we really have to be our own watch-dogs.
So if you have been toying with the idea of switching to natural, mineral make up but aren’t sure whether it works or if you need to apply it differently, then take a look at this video. I’ve gone through my step-by-step process of applying natural make up from start to finish.
Now I’m not actually a professional make up artist so my apologies to all the professionals out there that might watch this and cringe. I just wanted it to be really casual and share what I do.
If you do want to explore a career in beauty and make up with a natural and holistic focus, you should check out the College of Natural Beauty. In fact they are having a Wellness Careers Open Day across the country this Sunday along with their sister organisations, Endeavour College of Natural Health and FIAFitnation. Doors open at 10am in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and you can register your interest here: www.wellnesscareersopenday.com.au.
The more people out there that are actually learning about natural beauty, the better!
The two brands that I mentioned in the video were:
Kylie’s Mineral Goddess Professional Make Up & Twenty8 Skincare. These are the only brands I use at home and the brands that I use during the Shine From Within courses. You can learn more about each product here.
I hope you enjoyed the video and could handle hanging out up close with me for almost 20 minutes! Eek I don’t think I’ll ever get used to recording videos of myself! I’d love to know whether you have tried natural make up and what your experience has been with it. Let me know below or shoot me an email.
