From a Shipping Container to a House

I believe that this life is transient. That we shouldn’t feel too attached to anything. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take care of the place that we are in right now.

Ever since we lived in the recycled shipping container cabin, we have always wanted to find a more sustainable and manageable way to live in tune with nature. To live simply. Gently. Taking as little as possible, giving back to the land and working in cohesion rather than dominating. Doing it all in a way that could last…

What on Earth is a life coach?

This year I spent 6 months studying with the Beautiful You Coaching Academy to become a certified Life Coach.  Even as we begun the training I was still saying to myself, "what actually is a life coach and do you need to have your life 100% perfect to be one?"...

Just imagine if you knew…

Imagine if, back when you were in your teens, you knew how to nourish your body. Really nourish it. Feed it beautiful, living foods that make your insides dance with joy, give you energy and make your skin glow. Feeding your body from a place of love, not self-loathing because it feels damn good. Intentionally taking care of yourself rather than reacting to a symptom when you’re already sick. Imagine if you knew a beautiful nourishing yoga practice to rejuvenate your body rather than pushing your body to the limits trying to force it to look a certain way. Imagine if you knew that your opinion of yourself is the only one that matters. And that more is not always better. That it’s OK to say, ‘no’ and nourish the relationship with yourself. What would that change for you?

How to select ethical jewellery

Jewellery is so precious, often a symbol of love and friendship. But this symbol can also be an agent of change, given much more meaning when we can actually connect with the people who made the piece and know that it has been created in a conflict-free, ethical environment…

Moonbird

A few months ago I had the privilege of travelling down to Sydney for a photoshoot for this lovely Australian eco-fashion brand, Moonbird. Their pyjamas are made from beautifully soft 100% GOTS certified woven organic cotton and screen printed by hand. All dying, printing and assembling is conducted in a Fair Trade accredited facility in Jaipur, India. As I’m so strict with the brands that I work with, I get really excited when I discover a new one that is vegan, eco-friendly and ethical and actually get to work with them. Yay! Curl up and enjoy my favourites from their new collection.

Natural Manhood

Natural ‘beauty’ is not just for the girls. According to the Environmental Working Group, men are slathering themselves with an average of 85 chemicals per day. And let’s face it, men are incorporating more in to their grooming regime than ever before and it’s not going to stop anytime soon! My partner, Davey is no exception. He’s obsessed with his beard, often linking it to the very essence of his manhood.

Video: Fave Natural Deodorants

The most asked question I get when it comes to switching to natural is, “Do natural deodorants really work?” I have tried & tested A LOT of them over the last few years so I thought Natural Beauty Week was the perfect time to share my very technical findings. After all, a natural deodorant is no good if it doesn’t do it’s job!

How to say ‘no’ gracefully

As we quickly approach the second half of the year, it can feel like life has run away on us. The ease, grace and control that we felt at the beginning of January, with resolutions to manage our time more efficiently, exercise more often and take better care of ourselves can be long gone by now.

Video: Natural Make Up Tutorial

From discussions with friends, students, family and online musings, I've gathered that quite a few people are a little bit scared of mineral make up.  Or perhaps feel as though it might not work as well as the 'proper stuff.'  I get it.  It can be a different...

Eco Home Inspo ~ Living Space

Davey, our Staffy girl Trudi and I have moved around over the last few years. From a house, to a caravan, to a recycled shipping container home to renting a house in the hinterland to renting a duplex by the beach. Phew! But now we are building. It’s been an interesting adventure trying to find the balance in creating something that is sustainable. That will stand the test of time. That causes the least amount of impact on the landscape and ecosystem.

Real Connection in Business & Life

Last weekend I went to an intimate wedding with old friends on a citrus farm in Byron Bay. It was so good to look in to the eyes of girlfriends that I haven’t seen in the flesh for a couple of years and actually touch them, hug them and dance the night away with them. It made me accutely aware of how unfulfilling it is to just be able to see snippets of their life through social media. Real connection is what we are all craving.

I just think it’s another way we can do our bit to tread lighter on the planet.

Fashion Revolution Day – get on board!

On April 24 last year, over 1133 garment workers were killed in unsafe working conditions in a factory in Bangladesh. All over the world, people suffer every day to bring us our fashion. That’s not to say that fashion is bad. Fashion inspires us, pushes the boundaries and tells a story about who you are. It’s a powerful tool for self-expression. And it can be a force for good.

This year on April 24, we want to honour the victims of the Rana Plaza collapse in Bangladesh and we want to raise awareness about one of the fashion industries biggest challenges – ethical working conditions. We also want to celebrate fashion and the power it has to make big changes fast.

What does it mean to ‘live with compassion?’

My beautiful friend Krys from Practise Wellness and I have started working on a collaborative project called The Compassion Project. I can’t wait to share it with you – it’s been so beautiful planning it together and having big chats about it. But as we start getting in to it, the more ‘issues & questions’ it brings up. To me compassion is just so BIG and so broad and something that you can apply to all areas of your life. In fact that’s what we are hoping it will be – an ultimate guide to living a truly compassionate life.
