How to say ‘no’ gracefully

As we quickly approach the second half of the year, it can feel like life has run away on us. The ease, grace and control that we felt at the beginning of January, with resolutions to manage our time more efficiently, exercise more often and take better care of ourselves can be long gone by now.

What does it mean to ‘live with compassion?’

My beautiful friend Krys from Practise Wellness and I have started working on a collaborative project called The Compassion Project. I can’t wait to share it with you – it’s been so beautiful planning it together and having big chats about it. But as we start getting in to it, the more ‘issues & questions’ it brings up. To me compassion is just so BIG and so broad and something that you can apply to all areas of your life. In fact that’s what we are hoping it will be – an ultimate guide to living a truly compassionate life.

2013: that’s a wrap.

Wow.  What a big year!  A few words that sum it up are: connection, travel, expansion, LOVE. Back in 2011 I did a 'that's a wrap' post and it's incredible to compare that year with this one.  Back then I had only just recently recovered from cancer and we were living...

Let’s band together & demand more!

Sometimes I feel like I’m just moseying along doing whatever everyone else does because it seems like the right thing to do. We cruise along, happy to accept whatever people tell us as gospel. The Milky Bar Kid tells me I need 2 ½ glasses of milk a day so I must need that. The banks tell me the best way to save money is to use a credit card…. What??

Well I’ve had enough. It’s time to ask more questions, demand more and raise our expectations. We are intelligent, compassionate beings, why can’t we do things in a way that is sustainable, gentle and kind to other people, animals and the environment?

A year’s worth of inspiration…

This year has been an incredible and inspiring year! When I take a look at the people around me, most of my friends fall in to one of two categories:

1. They are preggas or have just had a baby

2. They are creative entrepreneurs doing amazing things

Both groups of girls inspire me every day and the few that fall in to both categories are just down-right Goddesses (or really cray cray) and I don’t know how they do it!

Easing in to a detox

Personally, the thought of doing a full on juice fast at home, while still working and going about my usual daily life is not appealing in the slightest. So I’ve decided to save up and take a girlfriend with me to a health retreat to do it in style. We’re off to Thailand in a few days to unwind, drink juice and do coffee enemas twice a day. I can tell you right now that I would not be so excited about putting coffee up my bum if I was just doing it at home!

What Makes You Feel Beautiful?

Last week I was lucky enough to attend a Marie Claire ‘I Feel Beautiful’ event in Brisbane. I was invited along by my beautiful friend Jess from I Died and Went to Vintage. So we went along not really knowing much about it. The event was inspired by the I Feel Beautiful study, which Marie Claire conducted in association with Priceline. The Australia-wide survey asked over 12,000 women, “What makes you feel beautiful?” The results are interesting and I found them quite surprising – here are some of the ones that stood out for me…

2011 – That’s a Wrap

I love this time of year. After eating copious amounts of food on Christmas Day and spending time with family, it’s nice to just hang out at home and sleep in. These last few days of the year are also a perfect time to sit back and reflect on 2011. Only 1 year ago I had just finished a grueling 6 months of chemotherapy. I was bald, 12 kilos heavier from all of the steroids and exhausted beyond belief. I was also incredibly relieved to have been told that I was in remission and excited about the prospect of getting my energy back and focusing on something other than my health, which had been my sole focus since early 2009.
