Summer is on it’s way, I can feel it!  But in the meantime it’s still pretty cold and the wind is brutal.  One of the first things I notice in winter is how dry my skin can get.  So, in case you are feeling the effects of winter on your skin just as much as me, here is a little list of things you can do to get through until the warmer months…

 

1. HYDRATE:
Ensure you are drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water a day & start the day with a warm glass of water with lemon juice to alkalize the body first thing in the morning. Avoid or reduce the amount of alcohol, coffee & tea (except herbal teas) you are consuming, which dehydrate the body.

2. MOISTURISE:
In winter, switch to a heavier moisturiser than you would normally use. I love the look of Lily Loves Pearl Hyper Hydrate Moisturising Cream

3. SMOOTH LIPS:
Hydrate your lips with a natural, vegan lip balm like the super cute, super cheap Hurraw lip balms… Available from the Green Edge and Chikii.

4. SPRITZ :
Use a hydrating spritz under your make up for extra hydration or try spritzing on top of your make up to prevent a flakey look.  I’m in love with my Adorn Mineral Cosmetics Organic Rose Water Hydrating Spritz and use it every single day without fail.

5. ROSE HIP OIL:
Give your skin some extra love with this deeply hydrating and healing oil. I’ve just run out of mine but I’ve been eyeing off this one – Absolutely Gorgeous Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil from Eudora.

6. EXFOLIATE:
Increase circulation and get rid of dry, dead skin by using a body brush like these ones which are beautifully crafted the traditional way, without chemicals, from Be Genki
It’s also a good idea to keep up your facial exfoliating routine a few times a week.  This one by Pure and Green is my pick.

7. BOWL OF WATER AT YOUR DESK:
if you work in air-conditioning or your home is heated, then you will probably find that the air is quite drying. Placing a bowl of water near your desk will help to keep some moisture in the air.

8. EYE MASK:
It’s important to ensure you get enough sleep but if you don’t, why not try an avocado eye mask?

Simply take thin slices of organic avocado from the fridge and apply to under the eye. Lay back for 20 minutes – bliss! This is a wonderful way to reduce puffiness.  If you want to read more about the benefits of avocado for the skin, you can read more here.
